“Working for the fair representation, vocalisation and the social betterment of the Muslim community”
Girls Activities
The female youth team was officially launched in summer 2008 and has progressed greatly under the ‘Sports for the future’ project which began in 2009. The team primarily targets 13-19 year olds with the additional 8-13 age group included during holiday activity weeks.
The four main sporting activities include martial arts, badminton, table tennis and swimming. A female only football program has also been arranged with LOCSP (Leyton Orient Community Sports Program) with UEFA qualified female only coaches in an indoor pitch environment. May 2009 saw the end of a 12 week beginners Tae Kwon Do class where all available spaces were filled and every participant graduated the accredited program with exceptional marks.
The initial three month (and hugely popular) beginners swimming course was completed with excellent individual results in July 2009. Due to high demand a second set of lessons were arranged and continue to be oversubscribed.
Other activities provided for female youth include Henna art skills foundation and intermediate classes, Creative arts and journalistic writing with the editor of Hackney’s magazine ‘Contrast’, First Aid courses, summer excursions, residential and weekend days out, pool tournaments and foosball.
Through planned activity weeks over the Easter and summer holidays, the girls are taken on excursions to various locations ranging from theme parks to outdoor activity centres and beaches, to ice-skating, bowling and eating out. Holiday trip locations in 2009 also included archery, rifle shooting, paintballing, aerial adventures, royal park trips, rock climbing, picnics, barge and long boat trips and badminton and football tournaments.
The female youth team works alongside the Duke of Edinburgh Award and fully supports members to accredited certification.
Every other month the NLMCC holds female youth forum meetings which are open to all youth. Existing members and new users are welcome to contribute their ideas and suggestions and keep updated on current and upcoming events. An election process is anticipated in the near future; where nominations for positions on the female youth board are open to all existing and future members to apply.
