Mental Health Service

The NLMCC’s Muslim Mental Health Care project has been running successfully for a number of years. The aim of this project is to provide support to members of the local community who suffer from mental health issues like schizophrenia, depression, anxiety and other conditions.

The Mental Health Liaison Officer helps to provide the following services:

  • 1.    Emotional Support and Befriending: This involves talking through and discussing  the clients problem in order to help them find a solution.
  • 2.    Support for families and carers: This includes sign posting, helping carer’s to inform them about the support available and where they can seek help from statutory bodies/services. The Liaison officer will also help to complete Carer’s Allowance Forms.
  • 3.    Home Visits: The Home visit service is targeted at individuals and families who suffer from physical and mental incapacity due to which they experience difficulties in everyday activities. The Liaison officer will visit the client at the home to ensure that there needs are being met and to offer any further assistance that they may require.
  • 4.    Advocacy and translation for clients: This service involves representing the client by identifying their needs and then pursuing the best course of action to secure benefits and services through methods like mediation (in Hindi,Urdu & Gujarati), representation on tribunals, submitting benefit applications i.e. DLA, Incapacity benefits form etc.
  • 5.    Referral to Local Mental Health Teams: For cases that require specialised support  which we cannot provide, our Mental Health Liaison officer will refer the client to the appropriate team/service to ensure that the clients needs are fully satisfied.
