Residential Trip
London Youth has two of the finest residential centres in the country offering team building training opportunities, outdoor pursuits and environmental studies for young people. Visitors attend from local schools and our affiliated clubs, often based in disadvantaged inner city areas. The residential centres provide an excellent environment for young people to gain basic life skills and take part in activities carefully designed to help them develop problem solving communication skills and how to work effectively as a team.
The young people that were part of the steering group and scrutiny group had first priority to go away on this residential weekend. We had a total number of 18 young people attending at The Bernard Sunley Activity Centre at Hindleap Warren, which remains at the leading edge of outdoor education and has a reputation as one of the best centres in the country especially for work with disabled groups and special needs.
All the young people had a great winter teambuilding experience. We split the group in two, which gave a competitive element to both parties. Each group had to work as a team in order to complete all the tasks successfully. The tasks were very intensive especially with the weather being cold and wet, left the participants completing activities in slippery and muddy conditions though the weekend.
This teambuilding weekend was a great success as this gave the opportunity to develop community cohesion. Many members that attended had never been away on a trip organised by NLMCC, this gave the young people the opportunity to interact and work together collectively. It also helped in identifying individuals roles whilst working in teams allowing them to make self assessments on their strengths and weakness. A personal score review sheet was given out this gave them a method of reflecting their feeling towards working in a team environment.
The Bernard Sunley Activity Centre at Hindleap Warren staff team very friendly and helpful in helping our weekend go according to plan. They were so impressed by the work ethic of all the participants they centre manager sent NLMCC a Thank you letter and also asked if we can be used as an example for a presentation, demonstrating the success Hindleap Warren has working with ethnic minority group.
