YOUNG PEOPLE FIRST

We ensure that we place our young people at the heart of our service. We develop our projects, services and activities based on the demand that we get directly from young people.

Our activities and opportunities focus on the following 4 core service areas which we have developed by working closely with and speaking to young people.

HEALTH & WELLBEING

Since we started delivering youth services in 1980, we have seen the massive physical, mental and social outcomes that young people achieve through fun and challenging physical and recreational activities and programs.

Young people have also benefited greatly from opportunities to develop awareness of the harms and dangers of poor lifestyle choices that enables them to make better informed choices about how to live their lives.

Our activity programs consists of the following activities to achieve this aim;

  • Indoor and outdoor recreational sports; football, cricket, tennis, table tennis, squash and more.
  • League and cup football and cricket teams
  • Healthy cooking classes
  • Healthy lifestyle workshops
  • Activity based healthy lifestyle accredited courses
  • Play schemes and more
  • One-to-one support for young people with health and wellbeing needs

EDUCATION, EMPLOYMENT & TRAINING

We want to help our young people to become the best that they can be. Many of the young people that use our services come from struggling families and backgrounds.

We work with our young people to help them to stay in and do well in school, education and work.

We deliver the following services and support to achieve this;

  • Volunteering opportunities
  • Job Application and CV skills for over 16 year olds
  • Information and advice about education, employment and training

  • One-to-one support for young people with employment, education and training support needs

YOUTH PARTICIPATION & CITIZENSHIP

Young people are the leaders of tomorrow.

At the NLMCC we ensure that young people are at the heart of everything we do. Our youth forums and consultations make sure that young people’s voices are heard, and help us to understand what young people are feeling and what they want. We work with our young volunteers to help develop and deliver the services that they want to see.

This is important to help our young people feel important and empowered, and to prepare them for the increased responsibility as they move on in their lives.

To achieve this we deliver the following services;

  • Youth forum meetings
  • Youth lead fundraising activities
  • Engage young people in the Hackney and UK youth parliament
  • Personal and social development workshops
  • Volunteering based accredited course
  • Awards ceremonies to celebrate young people’s achievements

SAFETY & SECURITY

Every young person should feel safe. Whether this is in relation to crossing the road, coming home safely after a day out with friends, not going too deep into the sea if they can’t swim, knowing when to stop a conversation on Facebook, being bullied at school or on watsapp, or notifying someone in authority about people who might be telling them to do things that just sound wrong.

Although a lot of these things seems like common sense, sometimes in the heat of the moment or during a difficult stage in their lives, a young person can easily make a decision that they might end up to regret.

In order to make young people alert to danger, and to ensure that they keep themselves safe, we deliver the following services;

  • Safety focused accredited courses
  • Safety workshops
  • First Aid courses
  • Advice and information about managing various types of risk
  • Supporting young people to manage risks during activities
  • One-to-one support for young people with concerned about their safety
