‘The Foundations’ is a media project that was developed in a partnership between North London Muslim Community Centre Youth project and the Hackney Museum.

The film was directed and produced by a group of young people from North London Muslim Community Centre with the assistance of two professional film makers.

The aim of the film was to celebrate the achievements of organizations in Hackney’s Cazenove Ward, that have been providing services for the wider communities for over 50 years.
The documentary takes the viewer on a historical journey starting from the 1960’s when the Muslim community first settled in Hackney, and shows the hard work that they did to lay “the foundations” for the community organisations that have grown to serve thousands of people on a daily basis.

This legacy has served as an inspiration for the generations that have followed, to continue the outstanding development that had its roots in the unassuming humility and hard work of those silent pioneers.
